I’ve had my new Canon 70-300 f4-5.6L IS, and Canon 50mm f1.8 II for about a week now, but I haven’t really been out with either, because I’ve been working on this new blog / gallery bizzo (which has been a mixture of frustration, consternation, anger and eventually triumph in equal parts).
Anyway my first impressions are very positive, both lenses produce clean images, the zoom is everything I was hoping for and more, I’m looking forward to the next quad racing season, I think that extra bit of reach will be great for the track. The nifty fifty is a bit noisy and hunts a bit to lock on focus, but again the images are great, the shallow DOF is fun to play with. I’ve only used the zoom on my 7D and the fifty on my 400D at the moment but will play around with both.
Below are some sample images from around the place close to home (and work), all with minimal processing, except the panorama which was stitched together in PSE9 and cropped.
